“I have been hosting international students thought Sara’s Homestay since 2004. I hosted students from Japan, Thailand, Taiwan, Vietnam, Korea, Spain, Colombia, and Brazil.
I worked with American Airlines as a ground staff at JFK and LaGuardia Airports for about 25 years. The experience with the airline has helped me improve my interpersonal skills since I met people from all over the world. I also did some culinary cooking short time as a hobby which has enhanced my skills in the kitchen when needed.
Once I hosted a Taiwanese student who lived with her grandmother back home. She told me a funny story, she said that when she told her grandmother that she wanted to study in the U.S.A, her grandmother was very concern about her decision because she thought she could not speak any English, since at home they would only speak Taiwanese. But in fact she actually knew how to speak proper English.
It is a wonderful experience to interact with all the students. It has been a wonderful exchange of energy with all of them since they are all unique in their own way. Some of them I have created long-lasting friendships. I have all of my students on my Facebook and I always enjoy working with the staff at Sara's Homestay.”
